Fr. Paul is retiring! If you opened your "snail mail" you know that at the end of December I am going to retire. Thanks for all your best wishes. As I said in my letter, I’m not leaving Laredo, I just believe it is time for another person to step into the leadership of our parish. You will hear more from me as the next few months unfold. (But you might have to come to church to hear it!)
So...., in a few weeks you will get a parish survey. It’s a simple tool which helps describe the kind of leadership gifts, style, abilities, etc. that our parish knows it needs for the next stage of our life and ministry.
It REALLY helps if you fill it out and return it on time. I will tell you that as a pastor I regularly got request to consider positions and my first questions were: “How many surveys did you send out?” and “How many did parishioners fill out and return?” It was easy for me to see whether the stated level of commitment and interest actually matched the survey numbers.
It also helps clergy who are wondering if Laredo might be the next state of their ministry discern and see if their gifts match the gifts needed at Christ Church.
Sunday, September 21st - Bishops and Baptisms our Suffragan Bishop Angela Cortiñas is coming on September 21st. I hope that many of you get to meet her as she joins us at the 11 a.m. Baptism service that Sunday. Plan on joining us for lunch with the Bishop after the 11 a.m. service.
"In other news…." I know that more National Guard folks will be rotating in and out of our community. Some of them may be stationed here for a year or so. Regardless of the politics, this is an opportunity to be friendly to folks and invite them to have a temporary church home during their time in Laredo. All of them are someone’s daughter, son, mom, dad, brother, sister, etc. So if you do happen to see them at restaurants, etc. let them know that they are welcome at Christ Church.
