Serendipity Two weeks ago, during the Children’s sermon at the 11 a.m. service, I used a broken plaster crucifix as an illustration. We talked about how even when things get broken, they can sometimes be put back together, and that God can do that with some of the things that happen to us. I left the crucifix on the floor where the children laid the pieces out and fit them together. After church I planned to pick them up and put them back in the box so that someday we could glue it back together. But the pieces were gone! Monday, I looked for them and found them lying on a large broken floor tile we have used for children’s sermons. I don’t know who laid the pieces out, but it spoke to me about Jesus being broken in a broken world, letting the cross somehow begin to heal the break between heaven and earth, between us and God. So…to whoever picked up the pieces, thanks for the image. Parkinsons Event Two medical experts on Parkinsons Disease, Dr. Sarah Horn, and Dr. Pablo Coss, both with the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio will lead a free symposium at IBC Admin Building, the Community Suite 2418 Jacaman road from 9 to 12 noon. This is for patients, caregivers, family and open to anyone who would like to know more about this disease which affects more than a million people in the US. It is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disease in the world, right behind Alzheimer’s. It is very likely that you know or have met at least one person with the disease here in Laredo. The conference is free, and you can register using this link. https://form.jotform.com/242668965417168 Stewardship In a few weeks, you will get a letter from me about giving to Christ Church. I asked that you pray and reflect about what you might be able to give to our parish next year. After 20 years at Christ Church I continue to be deeply moved by the support of this congregation. Thank you for your faithfulness in the past and for your future generosity.
