Rector's Bio
The Rev. Cruz H. Torres is the Rector of Christ Church Episcopal in Laredo. Originally from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Fr. Cruz has called Texas home for many years.
He received his Master of Divinity from Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, with a concentration in Latinx Ministries. He was ordained a deacon in June 2025 and a priest in January 2026. Before coming to Christ Church, he served as Curate at St. John’s Episcopal Church in McAllen.
Fr. Cruz has a heart for pastoral care, Christian formation, border and Latino ministries, and finding ways for the Church to be present in the wider community. He especially enjoys bringing people together and helping the Church be a place where everyone can find a home, grow in faith, and serve others.
Fr. Cruz is married to Gaby, and they have three children. Fr. Cruz and his family are happy to call Laredo home, and he is grateful to serve and grow alongside the people of Christ Church.
