 Easter Sunday 2021

We welcome all those who were baptized this past Easter Sunday. May all these babies, young children and their parents and godparents continue to follow and to serve Christ, loving God and loving their neighbors as themselves.

We are grateful for Bishop Rayford High and his wife the Rev. Ann Normand who joined us in worship this past Sunday, April 11,2021. Bishop High encouraged us to remember that Jesus returned after his resurrection to show love and grace to the very disciples who had abandoned him.  He noted "Jesus had a pretty good view of the crowd from the cross at Golgotha. He could see than all but one of his disciples was nowhere in sight, despite their promises to follow him to the end."
He reminded us that if Jesus returned to show mercy and grace to them when they abandoned him, so too will he show mercy and grace to us when we fail in our ministries,  and discipleship.

Dear Parishioners,
Last week some of you participated in the Diocesan Lenten Bible Study. The Rev. Dr. Jane Patterson did a wonderful job, and we were then divided into small discussion groups and to end came back together for a wrap up and a closing prayer. (Here is a link to last weeks study.)

This week we will hear from the Rev. Beth Wyndham, the vicar of a brand new church plant north of San Antonio, St. Nicholas, Spring Branch. Appropriately given the online format Beth's topic is "Mission through new technology" which is timely and important.  Your's truly will be the moderator this evening. You can find info on how to join the bible study on our Christ Church Adult Education page and the Diocesan Lenten Study Facebook page.  I strongly urge you to download the free Zoom app to your phone, tablet, or computer to make connecting easier.

Please keep our community and our parish in your prayers. One of our parishioners, Martha Gutierrez lost her brother Ricardo Mancha Sr. to Covid a few weeks back, and very sadly, his wife Anna lost her battle with Covid this past Monday night. Please pray for the Mancha family and for Martha and Leo and other family memebers. And please send us your prayer requests. It is a privilege to pray for one another.

We are just 2 weeks away from the one year anniversary of our entry into this new world of Covid 19 shutdowns.  We never closed our office, and continued to run our New Leaven food program weekly.  But March 18th will mark the date we stopped public worship. We did not resume actual in person services until the first week of June.

Last Lent and this Lent remind us that we do not control our destiny. But lets use these 40 days to put our lives into the hands of the one who does. As Corrie ten Boom used to say: "When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer."

And speaking of "trusting the engineer", this  Sunday, March 7th our topic will be "What is Jesus doing?"  Join us for in person worship at 8 & 11 in English, and 9 in Spanish or join us online at 9 or 11. We are grateful to have you with us in whatever way is best for you.

Finally, Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday on March 28th. Stay tuned for details on that, as well as Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and an Easter Celebration. (I still have my cascaron from last year and hope to actually have a chance to use it this year!)

Much love to you all in Christ - Fr. Paul Frey
