Repentance. Turning from one thing and turning to another. The Second Sunday of Advent readings bring us to John the Baptist, hanging out at the Jordan river and asking people to change. But how do we actually change? I love the suggestions in the Zen Habits.net Cheat Sheet. Change takes both help from God, a supportive community, and some intentional work on my part. I'm working on anger issues this Advent and probably the rest of my life. Turning from letting anger fester and create resentment and turning to creative ways to use that energy for good. Putting off darkness and putting on light.https://zenhabits.net/the-habit-change-cheatsheet-29-ways-…/
From Forward Movement,
A prayer by Phillips Brooks
Give me strength to live another day;
Let me not turn coward before its difficulties
or prove recreant to its duties;
Let me not lose faith in other people;
Keep me sweet and sound of heart, in spite of
ingratitude, treachery, or meanness;
Preserve me from minding little stings or
Help me to keep my heart clean, and to live so
honestly and fearlessly that no outward failure
can dishearten me or take away the joy of
Open wide the eyes of my soul that I may see
good in all things;
Grant me this day some new vision of thy truth;
Inspire me with the spirit of joy and gladness;
And make me the cup of strength to suffering
souls; in the name of the strong Deliverer,
our only Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
