This Sunday is the 4th Sunday after Easter, usually known as Good Shepherd Sunday. This Friday, our Bishop, The Right Reverend Gary Lillibridge notified all the clergy our our diocese that three parishes in our Episcopal Diocese of West Texas have been given permission to hold liturgical blessings of same sex unions.
He had previously discussed this at Diocesan Council and noted that some time this year he would make a decision on the request of those parishes to do so.
Some of you will be troubled by this, some of you will be glad about this, and other people are perhaps still sorting out where they are on this issue both in the church and in our culture.
I , Fr. Paul, will say a very few words about it this Sunday during the service, but after the 11:00 a.m. service we will have a 30 to 40 minute Question and Answer time for anyone who would like to talk about this further. We will hold another "Q and A" on Sunday May 17th, again after the 11:00 service.
One of the best things in the Episcopal Church is the willingness to worship and work with others with whom we disagree. At Christ Church we have people who come from many views, (and not just on this issue), but we seek to see and serve Christ in one another often across many divisions. For that I am grateful.
Much love in Christ,
