Dear Christ Church family,
Loss of a parish member. This past Sunday, Ana Gonzalez, wife of Cris Rodriguez, passed away unexpectedly. Ana and Cris directed our children’s Christmas pageant the last two years. Please keep Cris and the whole family in your prayers. There will be a wake, tomorrow, Thursday at Gamez and Son’s funeral home from 5-9p.m. with the Vigil for the deceased beginning at 7 p.m. Masks and social distance are required. We will also have a memorial service during the 11 a.m. Sunday service on Oct. 25th.
We are having actual services. Several parishioners this past week have been surprised to discover that we are actually having in person services. Obviously our communications need to be better. We have our 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. services in English and our 9 a.m. in Spanish. We do have every other pew blocked off, and we ask participants to observe social distance coming and going. We have had regular Sunday services since June 21. We will continue to broadcast our 9 a.m. service and our 11 a.m. on Facebook live.
Blessing of the animals. This Sunday is also St. Francis Day. We will have a drive by blessing of the animals from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Fr. Paul will be on the Lane Street side of the church on the walkway that goes out from our courtyard with holy water in hand. Please circle the block so that the passenger side of the car is on the church side of Lane street. You should be heading west towards downtown as you come by. And of course, people need to wear a mask, but animals are exempt!
2021 Stewardship and our financial status. Due to the amazing stewardship of the members of this parish we have held our own financially during this very difficult time. We are extremely grateful to God, to you, and to many who have sent unexpected gifts our way. Again THANK YOU!
Our vestry has begun the process of our stewardship campaign for 2021. Obviously much of our work will be virtual. We will be mailing a letter detailing the 2021 campaign in the next few weeks.
All Saints Day. One of our cherished traditions is remembering our loved ones by hanging ribbons in the sanctuary from November 1 through the 2nd week of Advent. We will have ribbons available in the church starting Sunday, Nov. 1st. We will also be mailing cards, designed to be hung with the ribbons. You may write the names of your loved ones on them, and return them via mail or drop in the church mailbox on Lane street if you are unable to come and add a ribbon of your own.
Baptisms, Weddings, and other sacramental events. We know some of you have postponed important events such as baptisms and weddings. If you would like to proceed with them we are always open to finding creative solutions, that allow relatively Corona Virus safety , such as outdoor events. Call Father Paul if you have questions.
Prayers for safety and grace. Please know that we pray daily for the safety and well being of the members of our parish, your families, and our entire Laredo community. May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand all the days of your life.
One of our parishioners was honored by the DAR. Mark Pease, Lt. Col. U.S. Marine Corps, retired, was honored for his service in Laos and Vietnam by the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition they recognized his many years of service in many and varied ways here in Laredo, in both civic and parish life. Congratulations to Mark!
Much love to you all in Christ - Fr. Paul Frey
