History

Christ Church as a Parish Church turned 142 years old in 2022. There were regular gatherings of Episcopal Christians at the Chapel at Fort McIntosh from the 1840s, and a mission congregation met regularly starting in 1871. But as a Parish, it was not formally organized until 1881. In 1881 life had settled down again after the U.S. war with Mexico, the Civil War, the military government of Texas during reconstruction, and the arrival of the railroad. The congregation met in a courthouse, (now part of La Posada Hotel) until they purchased land and a building on the corner of Davis and Farraugut streets in downtown Laredo, which took shape in the 1880's and into the 1890's. In the 1960's the congregation needed more space and more parking. They moved to the current location at
